ABOUT ME

Firstly let me address the question that I seem to get asked the most by my wedding clients – why 'Mr Sleeve'?

Well it comes from my days as a wannabe legend DJ when some friends gave me the nickname Steve Sleeve. For some reason it stuck around for a while and so when I was thinking of a name for my wedding photography business it seemed like an easy choice. And now I kinda like it. Especially when people shout it out at a wedding if they're trying to get my attention! But you can call me Steve.

I shot my first wedding back in 2001, and it was as a favour for some friends of mine (I was still at uni at the time studying photography). I absolutely did not want to become a wedding photographer at that point and instead set out to work initially as a fine art photographer, but then also as a commercial photographer working with design agencies photographing locations, portraits, food, products and travel. I even worked in a studio for a couple of years doing fashion work. Weddings just kind of started coming to me. First it was a couple of friends' weddings, and then a couple of their friends. Before I knew it, I had a wedding portfolio and a website. And then I realised that all of the different types of photography I had experience with actually play a part in shooting weddings.

I'm all about authentic and natural wedding photography.

I believe my role at a wedding is to document the beautiful day that unfolds in front of me. That's not to say that I don't get involved at times when a few prompts here and there might be needed, but the majority of the time I will just follow the action and capture it with photographs that tell the story of your big day. My photography will adapt to each and every wedding, but I try to keep it informal, relaxed, emotive, honest and FUN.

As well as running my photography business I have also built up over 15 years of experience working as a creative project manager for design and branding agencies in Manchester. This has helped me to hone very useful planning and organisational skills that I bring to each and every job I do. You'll no doubt know (or if not yet, you soon will) that planning a wedding can be as challenging as it is rewarding. Even more so if you decide to plan your wedding yourselves. So how I can help is by scheduling the photography for you based on the itinerary you build up with your venue, your celebrants, your caterers etc. You can read more about how I help my wedding clients plan their photography as well as some tips on things to consider that your other suppliers may not mention in a post on my JOURNAL page – Planning Your Wedding Photography.
