DOORSTEP PORTRAITS

Like many photographers, the great lockdown of 2020 has pushed me to find new ways of working while the wedding industry is essentially in limbo. One of these new ways was to offer doorstep portraits to families and households that are essentially housebound while we wait out this pandemic.

As a Manchester photographer this turned out to be a really nice way of staying connected to people and being able to capture a memory of what has turned out to be a defining era for our generation. And I've loved every single one.

It's been so interesting hearing people's stories about their lockdown experiences. How they've been spending the time, who they've been locked down with and how this experience has had an impact on how they view life looking forward.

And with photographing portraits of people in and outside of their houses it means that the homes are included in the portraits as a background and basis for their story. Our homes have become so central to our lives over the months of 2020 so it's only right that they play a part in your portraits.

As a wedding photographer I can't wait for when restrictions are loosened and we can start to plan events again, and gather with friends and families, and laugh and dance and celebrate. But in the meantime these portraits are helping to fill the gap for me, and I don't want to stop doing them. I intend to keep on offering these sessions and keep capturing memories of our lives at home.

If you're interested in having your own doorstep portrait taken please drop me a message using the link below. I'm looking to broaden the idea slightly and incorporate other parts of people's home lives – portraits taking on your favourite local dog walk, at the allotment, in the garden or anywhere else that is important to you.
